About Us
About Get LosWell, truthfully—at the moment, it’s just me.
I’m Derek Deans, the founder of Get Lost – Nature-Based Wellness & Support. You can call me owner, director, creator, facilitator… or just Derek. Titles don’t matter. What matters is why I started this and who it’s for.
This project was born from lived experience.
I’m someone who’s spent a lifetime feeling like I didn’t quite fit in. ADHD, anxiety, depression, PTSD, physical injury, misdiagnosis, underachievement, job instability, and what I now understand to be hidden mental health—I’ve carried all of it. I know how exhausting it can be to live just under the surface of “needing help,” but not quite qualifying for it.
School didn’t make sense to me. The military gave me structure but left me scarred. Life after that? A mix of labour, hustle, heartbreak, and quietly surviving. I’ve battled systems that couldn’t see what I was dealing with and well-meaning support that missed the mark. What I really needed—what so many people need—was a place to just breathe. To reset. To be seen, without judgment or diagnosis or paperwork. Somewhere that felt like a break from the chaos, not a fix.
That place became Get Lost.
So, who is this for?
It’s for people like me—and maybe people like you.
People who are carrying things they don’t talk about. Who don’t always have a diagnosis but still feel overwhelmed. Who are just trying to get through the day. People who might be stuck on the couch, between jobs, between homes, between identities. People who might not need therapy, but need something.
We offer that something through simple, low-barrier, non-clinical outdoor programs:
Guided hikes. Campfire circles. Nature walks. Gear-sharing. Time spent in fresh air with good people, no pressure, no performance.
It’s not about recovery. It’s about relief. Reset. Reconnection.
Why nature?
Because it works. Research backs it. Lived experience proves it. Nature doesn’t ask questions, and it doesn’t judge. It creates space—for you to just be. That’s what Get Lost is all about.
You don’t need to be fixed to be welcome here. You don’t need a diagnosis, a story, or even a plan. Just show up—exactly as you are.
We’ll meet you on the trail.
